Macclesfield Hospitality Action Parking Poll

This Poll Will Close 1st October 2024

Many thanks for all of your contributions to the poll. The poll is now closed. We are compiling the results and these will be shared very soon.

Cheshire East Council have started a consultation process on car parking charges being extended to include evenings, 18:00 - 22:00, and all day Sunday charging.

This includes some restrictions on times allowed to park in the same carpark (2 hours max in some cases), along with weekday charges being implemented on a Sunday and during the evening timeframes outlined above.

We are engaging with CEC to see if there is anything that can be done to reach a mutually beneficial agreement, whereby charges may be implemented, however not to such an extent so as to create a disincentive for people traveling into Macclesfield and using our wonderful town and the services and offerings our fantastic retailers and hospitality providers so proudly deliver.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US!

MHA was formed by Andy & Becky Thompson during the dreaded covid era, with the aim to join up as many hospitality operators throughout Macclesfield in order to create options for the greater good, and to try and ensure our businesses kept afloat.

Through the successful implementation and change of use of some outdoor spaces, along with sharing knowledge on how we could keep our businesses alive during the some of the most harrowing of times for our industry, we manged to keep each other going and come out the other side, or thereabouts!

Becky and Andy took on Treacle Market following Covid and have built the market back up and kept the wonderful beast that she is growing from strength to strength.

We have a vested interest in making sure parking charges are not prohibitive and hugely damaging to our market; the footfall that would dwindle if parking charges are excessive.

This goes for all retail, hospitality and service providers in our town who benefit from the monthly event which is largely know as the biggest, and we would say best (of course!) monthly event in Cheshire East if not beyond.

Footfall is between 15 and 19 thousand visitors during the monthly market and we do not wish to see a drop in these figures - it's not just our business that would suffer, but that of our traders, and all the town centre shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, and other service providers, that all benefit from this high footfall.

With this in mind, we are creating a poll for visitors, residents and anybody who uses our town centre offerings both during Treacle Market and in fact all other times.

We are a fully inclusive bunch of people with a common goal of not letting our town centre suffer due to the implementation of charges that would have a negative effect on all.

We would love to get your opinions from this poll in order for us to feed back to CEC in a structured way with actual facts, figures and a solid set of data that has been provided by you all.

All data that is collected will be anonymised with absolutely no personal data being shared.

If you would be so kind as to assist, we will create a solid and reasoned approach to CEC, which will hopefully be for the benefit of all.

Please can you all also make sure to complete the individual representations via email:

To respond to the consultation via email the address is carparksreview2024@cheshireeast.gov.uk the subject line should be ‘Variation 12’. To reiterate, if objecting it should be made clear and reasons given e.g. “I object to Parking Order Variation 12 because…”

Much love x
